Wait List for Department Schedulers

Wait Lists for Department Schedulers

Manage wait lists and support enrollment planning.
Wait lists provide a mechanism for students to queue for classes that have reached enrollment capacity. Department schedulers play a key role in creating wait lists, monitoring wait list demand, evaluating seat availability, and supporting academic units in making informed decisions about course capacity and section offerings.

Department schedulers may use wait list activity to:

  • Monitor student demand for full classes.
  • Identify opportunities to increase enrollment capacity when appropriate.
  • Assess the need for additional course sections.
  • Support departments in balancing enrollment and resource availability.
  • Coordinate with academic units, instructors, and college leadership regarding enrollment management.

Important:

  • Wait lists do not guarantee enrollment. Students must meet all course prerequisites, restrictions, and enrollment requirements to be enrolled if a seat becomes available.
  • Opening additional seats or sections is subject to instructional capacity, classroom space, and academic unit policies.
  • Departments regularly review wait list demand to inform future course scheduling and offerings.

Frequently Asked Questions - Wait Lists for Department Schedulers

Navigate to Dashboard > Student > Catalog and Schedule. On the Catalog and Schedule page, select Schedule Overview. In the Analyze pane, select CSW - Class Enrollment Detail, expand Measures, and select Total Wait List for the total number of students on the wait list and Wait List Capacity for the total capacity for the wait list.

Each section maintains its own wait list. To ensure wait lists function properly for combined sections, the total wait list capacity across all sections should equal the combined enrollment capacity. This alignment helps prevent enrollment issues and ensures students are moved from the wait list in the correct order as seats open.
