Request for Residency Decision Review

A student who believes they were incorrectly classified as non-resident for tuition purposes may submit a Request for Residency Decision Review form to initiate a review of the non-resident decision. The Request for Residency Decision Review is for new or readmitted student whose Statement of Residency Classification (SORC) resulted in a non-resident decision or for continuing students whose Request for Residency Reclassification resulted in a non-resident decision.

Students are encouraged to meet with a Residency Classification Officer (RCO) to review their residency decision and current ABOR guidelines to understand why they were classified as non-resident.

Deadline

The student must submit the request no later than 35 days from the last day of regular registration for the term for which the student is seeking classification as an Arizona resident. Request for Residency Decision Review will not be accepted after the deadline.

Process

  • Submit a Request for Residency Decision Review. The submission will require a written statement explaining:

    • The reasons why you, the student, believe the residency classification decision is incorrect.

    • Presents all relevant facts to support the belief that the classification decision is incorrect.

  • Upon Submission:

    • An initial review is completed by a Residency Classification Officer (RCO). The RCO may identify additional information or additional supporting documentation that the student may provide to support classification as an Arizona resident for tuition purposes.

    • If the RCO upholds the non-resident decision, written notice of approval for a Residency Review Meeting is sent to the students’ official University of Arizona email address.
