This guide outlines the different terms (Fall XXXX, Winter XXXX, Spring XXXX, Summer XXXX, etc.) used in the Career, Program, and Plan (CPP) structure and how these fields impact the student's academic record. Understanding these terms is essential to keep the student’s record accurate.

Requirement TermDefinition
Career Requirement Term (CRT) Enforces university-level requirements (e.g., General Education, Foundations, Upper Division Units) and academic policies. 
Program Requirement Term Enforces college-level degree requirements. 
Plan Requirement Term Enforces major or minor-specific curriculum. 
Subplan Requirement Term Enforces subplan-specific curriculum (e.g., emphasis areas). 
Admit Term Indicates when the student was admitted. Not a requirement term (does not impact the student’s curricular requirements) and should not be changed after matriculation.

Career Requirement Term (CRT) After documented consultation with the student (Trellis note), advisor will request the update via their assigned Graduation Services Advisor. 
Program Term Updated by the advisor when the student changes to a new college and major. 
Plan Term Updated by the advisor when the student changes their major or minor. 
Subplan Term Updated by the advisor when the student changes emphasis. 
Admit Term Not updated after the student matriculates.  Note – the advisor may need to retype the original admit term into this field when adding rows, and that is expected UAccess behavior.

Program Term Curriculum updates occur annually, changing the term may result in new requirements. 
Plan Term Curriculum updates occur annually, changing the term may result in new requirements. 
Subplan Term Curriculum updates occur annually, changing the term may result in new requirements. 
Admit Term No impact, should not be changed. 
special scenarios

Summer Admits: First-time admits to a summer term will follow the catalog in effect the following fall. 

New Major/Minor/Certificate: Student may select a newer catalog for the new item. Career Requirement Term remains unchanged. 

Readmitted Students: 

  • If Tiered General Education curriculum is incomplete, the Career Requirement Term must be updated to the readmit term. 

  • If Tiered General Education curriculum is complete, the Career Requirement Term may be moved back to the original term. 

Discontinued Majors: Student must select a new major. Advisors should help map prior coursework to new requirements.
