Alex Underwood is the University Registrar at The University of Arizona, a role he has held since May 2019. With over 20 years of experience in higher education administration, Alex has led initiatives in academic operations, student records, curriculum management, and enrollment planning.

Before joining Arizona, Alex served as the Executive Director of Academic Systems and Student Records for City Colleges of Chicago, the largest community college district in Illinois, serving more than 80,000 students annually. His previous roles at City Colleges included District Director of Academic Systems and Registrar of Malcolm X College. He also held several positions at Kendall College in Chicago, including Registrar.

Alex began his professional career as an Academic Advisor, an experience that continues to shape his student-centered approach to his work. He is a strong advocate for leveraging technology to streamline academic processes and enhance the student experience.

Alex is actively involved in the professional registrar community. He currently serves as Immediate Past President of the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO), is a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of American Universities (AAU) Registrars, and contributes to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) as faculty for Registrar 201, a member of the Curriculum Committee, and a former elected member of the 2024 Nominations and Elections Committee.

Alex is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education at The University of Arizona, further deepening his commitment to advancing student success and institutional effectiveness.
