History of the University Registrar

What is a Registrar?

The University Registrar serves a key administrative role, overseeing various aspects of academic administration and student services. In the early days of the University, a committee of current professors managed the process of student registration and classification, but as the University grew, the position of the University Registrar and the Office of the Registrar was established.

The Registrar's core responsibility lies in managing student records, including grades, transcripts, and course registrations:
  • Coordinate with academic departments to devise class schedules that align with student needs and academic requirements.
  • Manage the registration process, resolving issues and upholding registration policies.
  • Interpret and enforce academic policies, ensuring compliance and fair treatment of students.
  • Monitor students' progress toward graduation, conducting degree audits and verifying completion of requirements.
  • Provide transcript services, furnish official transcripts, and process requests for external entities.
  • Compile and report enrollment data to internal and external stakeholders, maintaining compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.

Overall, University Registrars play a vital role in safeguarding academic integrity, supporting student success, and facilitating the smooth operation of academic processes within the institution.
