Special Course Fee Definition and Policies for Students
Special course fees are additional charges, authorized by the Arizona Board of Regents, for specific courses that have demonstrably higher costs of delivering instruction because of the need for special equipment, supplies, technology or field trips. For more information, please view the ABOR Guidelines for Class Fees at the Arizona Board of Regents web site.
An iCourse fee is a special class fee that covers the cost of technology and academic and student services related to online instruction. Online instruction requires increased space on computer servers, increased 24/7 tech support, and enhanced electronic learning tools. As more courses are available online, special online tutoring will become available and will be paid by this fee. The iCourse fee is $50 and covers the cost of courses taught online in traditional, on-campus degree programs.
Special course fees must be formally requested by the academic department through an electronic process that includes approvals by the department head, the College Dean, the University Fees Committee and the Office of the Provost. For fees that exceed $100, Arizona Board of Regents approval is also required.
