Degree Certification Procedures for Undergraduate Students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
A final audit of your academic records is done to ensure that you have completed all requirements for your degree. If you have questions about course requirements for General Education, your major, or your minor, please contact the appropriate department advisor or college advisor. Feel free to contact your Graduation Services advisor (identified by your major department) if you have any questions about your degree audit.
Application for degree candidacy is handled in one of three ways, depending on how academic advising is delivered in your major department.
Students with a major in Communication:
Apply for graduation with your Graduation Services Advisor, Melanie Brady, in the Music Bldg., Room 111, before you register for your final semester. Print out a current SAPR (Student Academic Progress Report) from Student Link and take it with you. Melanie will ask you to complete an Application for Degree Candidacy and will charge a $35.00 candidacy fee to your Bursar's Account. She will then give you a Senior Degree Check Adjustment Form (pink sheet) to take to your major advisor in Communication. (If needed, you will be sent to your minor advisor first.)
You will take your Senior Degree Check Adjustment Form (pink sheet) to the Communication Advising office during their walk-in office hours and they will set an appointment with you to review your Senior Degree Check Adjustment Form, which you will leave with them. The Communication advisor will then forward your signed Adjustment Form to Melanie Brady, who will monitor completion of all outstanding requirements until your graduation date.
Students with a major in Philosophy, and Political Science:
Apply for graduation with your major advisor. Before you register for your final semester, make an appointment with your department advisor. Print out your SAPR (Student Academic Progress Report) from Student Link and take it with you. During your advising appointment, your advisor will review the courses and requirements for your major, make adjustments as appropriate, and sign your Senior Degree Check Adjustment Form. At the same time, you will complete an Application for Degree Candidacy. The application will be forwarded to your Graduation Services advisor, and she will place a $35.00 degree candidacy fee on your Bursar’s account. If adjustments are needed to your minor, you should take the pink Degree Check Adjustment Form and SAPR to the department advisor for your minor. If no adjustments are needed to your minor, there is no need for you to see your minor advisor. Once any adjustments have been made to your course requirements, take the pink Degree Check Adjustment Form and SAPR to your college advisor in the SBS Advising Center, Douglass Bldg., Room 101 (you will need to make an appointment). The college advisor will review your General Education course work and will sign the Degree Check Adjustment Form for the Dean of SBS.
Philosophy and Political Science majors should take the pink Degree Check Adjustment Form and SAPR to Julie Adkins, Forbes Bldg., Room 211C. The Graduation Services Advisor will review University degree requirements with you and will make sure that nothing has been overlooked. She will monitor completion of all outstanding requirements until your graduation date.
Students with other majors in the College of SBS:
You should apply for graduation with your Graduation Services advisor. Before you register for your final semester, plan to meet with your Graduation Services advisor. Print out your SAPR (Student Academic Progress Report) from Student Link and take it with you. The Graduation Services advisor will ask you to complete an Application for Degree Candidacy, will charge a $35.00 candidacy fee to your Bursar's Account, and will briefly review University degree requirements with you. She will then give you a Senior Degree Check Adjustment Form to take to the department or college advisor for your major.
Make an appointment with your major advisor and take the pink Degree Check Adjustment Form and SAPR with you. The advisor will review the major requirements, make adjustments as appropriate, and sign the Degree Check Adjustment Form. The Advising Center will then forward your Adjustment Form to your Graduation Services advisor, who will monitor completion of all outstanding requirements until your graduation date.
